I started my first small business when I was in grade school (over 50 years ago). Ever since then I have been making and selling products / services and making money (lots of money!). I’ll turn 62 in 2010 and I’m still making money as a small business owner (even though I’m retired).
I found out that making money is probably one of the easiest things to do with your life. Well ... it is easy when you know the right things (or know how to learn them), have the right skills (or know how to get them), and seize the right opportunities (or know how to make them). For me, making money is easy to do. When I started teaching other small business owners ... the right knowledge, the right skills, and the right opportunities ... they also found it much easier to make more money.
In 1977 I started MPD Inc. to run my first full-time small business. MPD Inc. consisted of me. Sometimes I hired contractors. Sometimes I was the project manager for specialized teams. Professionally I worked as a business analyst who consulted with large companies to create their custom products for worldwide distribution. I worked with over 300 major corporations and over 1,000 smaller businesses between 1977 and 1999. Here are few of them ...
Atomic Energy Canada, Bank of Nova Scotia (Canada & Caribbian projects), British Telecomm (Canada & Great Britain projects), Canada Post, Canadian Daily Newspaper Association (85 member newspapers), The Heart & Stroke Foundation (Canada), Ontario Securities Commission, IBM Canada (Canada & USA projects), Rapistan Inc. (USA Projects), Thordon Bearings (50 countries), The Toronto Star & Toronto Star Syndicate (Canada & USA projects).
In 1995 (at 47) I retired as a business analyst. I didn’t terminate MPD Inc., but I basically retired and stopped working (except when past clients threw money at me). Both of my sons had finished their schooling and left home. I now wanted to do something else with my life instead of consulting for big business. I eventually started Income-Books.com as a division of MPD Inc.
For the last 10 years I have been writing about small business. I have been writing short education articles and “how to get it done” step-by-step instruction guide books for the serious small business owner. My purpose for writing these books and articles is to “transform the poor & unhappy into the smart & rich.”
My current writing is directed towards ‘Why a business is successful’ and ‘Why a business fails’. My current book-in-progress is about how to fabricate ‘made to order’ small businesses that have no hidden or fatal flaws. My purpose is to document how to reverse the universal 99.2% failure rate for new start-up businesses ... to construct small businesses with a 100% success rate. I’ve got the right experience, the right knowledge, and the right tools for this project. Look for my new book titled, “When Your Small Business Sucks ... Re-Design And Re-Engineer It”. It is a sequel to my book titled, “Why Your Small Business Sucks ... And How To Fix It Without Financial Risk” listed on this website.
Whatever I write in the future ... you can be sure it will be of financial assistance to every serious small business owner. .................................................
